Dare To Dream!
Because we think of Resolutions at this time of year…
Somewhere in the middle of mortgage payments, daycare arrangements, and 60-hour work weeks, we write-off dreaming as childish and immature.
Along the way, we water down our dreams until they shrivel into manageable goals that cease to excite us and barely even energize us.
Have you ever talked with someone who told you not to dream so big, it only hurts that much more when it doesn’t happen?
D r e a m! And Dream BIG! As Gothe said ‘dream no small dreams for they have not the power to move men’s souls (or something to that effect).
In this time of turmoil and uncertainty it is more important than ever to go forward with strength and confidence and the only way to do that is with a BIG Dream.
What is a big dream? It is a powerful goal with a personally powerful why embedded in it. A goal that moves you to action with excitement and enthusiasm! An idea to do something extraordinary something you have never done before. It stretches you and makes you move out of the comfort of the ordinary that you have lived in so long. It might even scare you a little. But in all it takes you out of yourself and makes you think – What If? Wouldn’t it be grand… and Why Not!
In our talks with our teams we get many goal sheets to review and talk about with people who really want to make a difference in their own lives as well as the lives of others. But many of us are so unaccustomed to dreaming and goal setting that we give meager chance by setting the bar way too low!
For example:
Make enough money to pay my bills – this is not a dream or a very good goal
Not lose my job this year – well that speaks for itself
Make manager – ok, better
A good goal is one where it means you would not get there ‘anyway’ eventually so you need to focus and work at it. It also must be very crystal clear in your mind thus it must be specific.
Take “Make enough money…” for example. How much money do you want to make each month? When do you want to start making it? And what is it that you must do to reach that point?
“I make $5,000 a month by June 12th I have acquired the necessary upgrade to my skill at my work place (you put in the details or course of study etc) and put forward my best effort possible on a daily basis.
Now that is specific and timely and has the ‘sacrifice’ or what you intend to do to get the increase in income.
The oldest and still the best reference material in how to achieve in the world starts with Napoleon Hill’s classic text – Think And Grow Rich. If you have not yet read it, go get a copy today!
It may be the New Year but we don’t do resolutions anymore. We do inspirational life enhancement and transformational goal setting!
Don’t just live; make your life a statement. Rejoice!
Make this your year! Talk to you soon, Mark-
